Found you due to a problem!
I have an '02 147 Selespeed (import if it makes any difference) with all the whistles and bells which I really like but... recently it has broken down 3 times with the same problem. The car seems to think it is in gear when I try to start it, and as a result won't start. It's not in gear, and the AA don't get anywhere when they try to reset the electonics either, so I assume there must be some manual issue as well as an electronic one.
The local Main Service Dealer has fixed it twice (the second time under warranty as it happened a few days after they had fixed it the first time) and I have just had to get the car towed back to the garage again today with the same problem again.
Someone told me it might have something to do with a "stuck actuator". I'm afraid that doesn't mean much to me, but is this a known / common / expensive issue? Are there other reasonable sources of parts aside from Alfa?
Any help and thought much appreciated. I'm beginning to think it is time to change cars to be honest, I've never been happy with the amount of oil it seems to get through, and another colleague told me he thought he could hear some "knocking" but again my car knowledge is not good enough to know precisely what that means. Having said that I'm very prepared to be talked out of selling it, I really don't have the cash around to be getting another car.
Any thoughts / advice / comments much appreciated.
