Re: Just arrived!
Thanks Hunter for the info on the HIDs.
Apparently VOSA have told test centres to fail cars with aftermarket HID installations (saw links on another forum) this was following complaints about them in a car magazine. A directive was put out by VOSA following the Auto-express article telling MOT stations to tighten up on them!
In my opinion, if you fit washers and have auto levelling on the headlights there is absolutley no reason why they should be failed on an MOT (subject to also being fitted in a headlight suitable for use with HID, ie, projector or shielded bulbs). The HID kit in my other car is ISO approved, TUV type approved and E marked and the car does have them fitted as a standard option when new AND the headlights are the very same units!
Surely it is much safer to see where you are going?
I wholeheartedly agree that some kits are fitted into headlights that are not suitable for HID and do not meet the requirements and can therefore dazzle onlookers. That is a good reason for failure but to fail a car regardless of professional converion is stupid.
This is putting a stupid rule before safety!
