Hi there - I found this forum on a web search and it seemed like a nice friendly place so I thought I would register. Thing is... I am trying to keep my collection of Alfa engine/transmission parts going, but they are in a kit car which I have extensively re-designed over a number of years, so I am a bit worried about the kind of reaction I'm going to get.
The Nova is a kit car from the 1970's, and is usually fitted to a VW Beetle chassis, but I couldn't live with the poor vehicle dynamics and used a scrap Alfa Romeo Alfasud engine and transaxle in a full tube frame chassis which I designed myself. The running gear came from a 1978 Alfasud Ti, but now the engine is a zero-miles 1982 Green Cloverleaf 1.5. The car has just passed its second MoT and its my only car. I like to think of it as a Nova T33 (as in taleo-tubulare). Just a whim really.
To celibrate the Nova's new lease of life, I took the old girl to the Auto Italia Italian Car Day at Brooklands last year, but the organisers tried to turn me away and I was told that the AROC members would kill me, so you can imagine how I felt. I was allowed to park round the back of the site in the end, but I've no idea if I will be allowed back in again.
Because she's got a twin-carb, the Haynes manual isn't quite so useful for tune-ups. I've changed the cam-belts because they were 20 years old, but I've got a weep from the nearside camshaft oil seal which I will have to do soon. Plus I need advice on ignition timing and carb tuning and ideas about where I can get the tired synchro on 1st and 2nd gear looked at...
So I'm hoping that I don't incur the wrath of the purists if I ask whether I would be welcome on this forum and whether I would be worthwhile joining AROC?
