Hello all, I’m a newbie and would like to make my peace.
I always used to have a theory about
a) Alfa owners
b) Forum participants
Usually along the lines of, "hey dude, it’s just car, especially as its only a fiat re-badged".
Also along the lines of "What donkey participates in a forum, ain’t got any friends to go down the pub with"
So could you imagine my natural thought of combining those to “crack pots”
Then I made the mistake of walking past an Alfa garage in North London about 2 weeks ago...There I was strolling along minding my own business with my ipod in and my hips a-jigging. What happened next was more life changing than what happened to Paul on the way to Damascus…I stopped dead, and seductively reeling me in was an Alfa 147. I just had to walk in. Then I made the mistake of sitting inside it. Oh yes it gets worse. Then I made the mistake of taking it out just for a spin. “Hey I got a spare hour, why the heck not, the wife’s out shopping”. Then I made the mistake of whining down the windows and heard the most beautiful of hymns.
That was it. I was smitten, hook line and sinker. The Alfa rep hardly spoke; he just said “I told you so”. We returned to the garage and spoke; he said he would look out for a good 2nd hand example within my price range and call me.
I got home, went straight onto the TinTerNet and just googled alfa romeo, I digested every single review, report, guide and test drive that I could found. Actually considered learning Italian so that I could get even more reviews, then I thought “Nah”. Pictures were defiantly speaking a thousand words.
Then I came across this odd bunch of people on www.alfaowner.com
. It was like finding a long lost brother. I spent the best part of this week at home and at work reading everything I could find on the site. All the things to look out for, all the things to check when buying Alfa’s and in particular all the cheeky habits of a147.
So I get a call from the dealer yesterday and he says he has found me one. I go down there, see it, drive it, buy it. He gave me a free 1 Year warranty, serviced the car, MOT’d it, cleaned it, washed it, new tyres and mats.
I got home, and told my wife to go see her new car and I think the police are still looking for a murder victim that screamed down a suburban London street.
So I guess
a) Alfa owners do really have something to be smug about
b) Forums are a collective thing of beauty. I thank you all for just being bothered to share all your info.
So as the title above states, you lot are so sad...well, so am I
