Thumbs Up Alfa gtv new owner

Hi all Ive bought a 2.0 gtv 916, I bought it off ebay as a project it was super cheep at 200 but the engine was water damaged so ive chucked it out and bought a new engine off ebay and it ran fine a couple of times until the big end dropped out !!!!! (dodgey seller & plenty of slick 50) however ebay has refunded me and im in the process of swapping the crank.. ive locked the cams and will dial the crank to find tdc but are there any particular timing marks eg. balance shafts ect.. i need to line up. the cams were locked off before the belt was removed and the engine was at tdc, with the engine upright the balance shaft marks faced upward at a 12 oclock position and there was a mark on the crank/cambelt pully that faced to nine oclock does this sound ok. ive heard of people leaving the balance shafts disconnected (no belt ) has anyone tried this and noticed much difference in vibration or noise? this also should make the engine slightly more free revving or is it hardly noticable?

cant wait to get it up and running its a series 2 in black with the momo red leather it looks the dogs do dahs...

the misses & a few of my mates think ive bought a lemon so I really want to get this right, I cant believe how cheep these cars are so Im being fussy with the engine and hope I'll get some reliabilty out of it just to prove them wrong & hope the values will rise so I can have the last laugh

forgot to mention im doing the timing belt kit new mains & bigends, thrusts and front and rear crank seals
