Hello to all alfaowner.com Alfisti,
For some time wife Cherry has been driving a 1.6l 147 which is the 'replacement' for her 1.6l 145. As before I have the displeasure of maintaining same; I'm sure it would be a lot more pleasurable if I was able to enjoy driving it nearly as often as she! After 2 years of doing sweet nothing to it (unfortunately not due to nothing needing doing, more due to never-getting-round-to-it) it has come in for revisione. For 15,000mls, since acquisition in fact, there has been an awful engine rattle on start-up, likewise front suspension noises. Then one or other dog ate the rear seat belts. Oh and gentle hammering noises from the front anti-roll bar. Bit of a dog itself you might say.
So in time for the Christmas holiday or 'Winter DIY Workbreak' as it should be better known, I bought some parts. Now with a new 'variator' (dreadful name) it's displaying much better composure when starting from cold and (maybe) just a tad better perfomance. I still think, though, that our old 145 (admittedly a few kilos lighter) went rather better. I thought on paper the engines of the 145 and 147 ought to be pretty identical in terms of output? Future projects, therefore, will include some performance teaks - maybe even in time for the Prescott Ladies course in April. So any performance-enhancing recommendations most gratefully received, but not the Viagra emails (for pity's sake). I notice also that, while the 145 basically used no oil at all, this does and with rather fewer miles.
Looking forward to some cheerful chat and getting to know 1 or 2 of you, best regards from new member....

PS anyone with a pre-war Monza who doesn't want it any more but fancies a 147 for a change???
