Service Costs

Hello out there,

I have been a big fan of Alfa's for some years now and an about to make the jump and buy. I am looking to buy a 2005/6 156 JTD which i think is one of the finest looking motorcars on the road. Look forward to having many chats here at alfaowner.com

I also have a first question (not sure if this is the place to ask)
One thing that worries me is that a report i have just read claims that a 3 year service for an alfa is £1000+. Almost twice the price for an Audi A4 Avant service.

Is this true, the norm or worst case scenario?

Cheers

Goth

Re: Service Costs

Hi Goth, welcome to AO.

I don't know about third year service but £1,000 seems wrong. Have a look through the "General Alfa" lounge to see if someone's already posted about it.

Re: Service Costs

hi Goth. I think that info is definetely wrong. After I bought my Alfa 147, I phoned up the alfa dealership in Edinburgh where the first 3 years worth of servicing was done. (Wanted to find out if they had a record of the cam belt being changed). They confirmed that at the time of the 36k/ 3 year service, they did £1400 worth of work to the car. This included the service itself, but also the replacement of a broken cam belt and the blown head gasket that resulted from it, amongst other things. After hearing of my car's history, I was at first worried I'd bought a lemon, but have had the car now for 6 months with no hitches, and am happy with her. My car is now coming up for its 48k service, and tho I can't remember exactly how much the official Edinburgh dealership quoted me, I know it was reasonable - certainly not in the region of £1000.
Hope this reassures you.
