Re: Need Gtv Confidence

GTV are wicked cars, but 97 is a little old, id wait and save for the face lift model, buy the time you spent all the money sorting it out you may as well have bought a facelift! Gr8 cars tho!

Re: Need Gtv Confidence

Welcome aboard.

First point of call is the buyers guide found in the technical forum for the gtv, it's first class and identifies all the points to look out for.

As mentioned previously try and get as recent a model as possible, I think the facelift version (phase 3) started late 2003 / early 2004. If you can't afford something that recent, don't let that put you off, there are plenty of good twins sparks out there.

Couple of things to watch out for
1) belts have been changed as per service requirement c.30k
2) condition of rear suspension bushes - a known weak point which if left unattended can cause expensive damage. Most peeps replace with 'powerflex' which are more robust.

Good luck
Mike

Re: Need Gtv Confidence

I was really nervous about the other half getting the GTV, as I had a few probs with the 156, which on past record are not so bad.

Took advice from the guys on here and she went and got it...it is on a 02 plate, it drives like a dream, not as comfortable as sitting in a 156....but it does give you that sports car feeling when you are whipping it around the country lanes....

A bl00dy good fun car!!

in short go for it......

Re: Need Gtv Confidence

Welcome to AO Ignore the doubters about the age, as long as it's been looked after there's no reason why a '97 shouldn't be perfectly reliable
Any car getting on for 10years old will need some maintenance but the GTV will reward like no other
