new to Alfa ownership
So, as a confirmed VW/Audi apparatchik for the last 25 years or more, when I retired I thought I'd buy a sports car. Any jokes about 'mid-life crises' are probably appropriate at this point.
However, having owned Italian cars some years ago (Lancia Delta, Y10), and on the basis that someone famous apparently said you're not a proper car nut until you've owned an Alfa, I decided that it would be something Italian, with all the positives and challenges that entails.
So I'm now the proud owner of a black 1999 Spider Lusso 2.0TS which has now done just over 50k miles. It was generally in pretty reasonable nick when I got it and had lots of history. I've subsequently done some fettling (cam belt service, alloys refurbed, stainless exhaust) and have sorted a few niggles (The radiator sprang a leak and had to be replaced and the electric hood malfunctioned but it turned out just to be a frayed wire).
So far though, positive experience - it goes well, drives well and is huge fun to punt around. I'm quite surprised by the amount of attention it gets too, for a 15 year old car!
