Hi,
I need to change the variator on my GTV TS. rattling well
Can anyone advise on cam setting markings etc.
I have been informed by Mangoletsi that the cam has to be removed,
having worked on many VT engines, I have not had to remove cams to change the actuator.
Also any advice on setting up timing, I normally use a DTI to measure MOP along with a crankmounted protractor and adjust using a vernier.
Any comments please.
Thanks

welcome.

this would have been better off in the technical forum but never mind, your new so i forgive you :)

im not sure about the GTV but certainly the 156/147 TS engines have a cam locking tool that you put in place when replacing the variator. i didnt think the cams had to be removed tho? certainly the cam belt. im sure someone will be along to give you a definitive answer.

ps, the cam locking tools are available from several online stores including EBSPARES. click here

hope thats of some help

The article above covers it all but you don't HAVE to remove the cam to change the variator. If you get hold of a variator removal tool (or similar), and use the far left exhaust cam cap (near the pulley) bolts on the camlocks instead of their usualy bolts the variator can be removed....but you still need camlocks.

I understand most 6v engines use camlocks these days...
