Crazed Hello

Hi,

I originally came from the Fiatforum.com as ive owned fiats since I was 17 I post as ChrisUK on there too.

Im now the proud owner of a 1998 Alfa 156 2.0L Twin Spark with Red leather interior and high lift boot spoiler. Got a couple of niggles like the dreded variator issue as well as the exhaust rattle (im assuming heatshield) and a noise from the rear left of the car as if part of the brake is binding ive had a look and there is a thin but not deep score on the disc.

Any help / advice to get these sorted? . The worst quote ive had so far is 600 for the cam belt and variator replaced!.

Cheers

Chris

Re: Hello

Yeah it is a small world! .

I live just round the corner from B.M.C and yeah I have they quoted 450 for the cambelt, balancer belt, tensioners etc as well as the variator or 350 without variator. Just wondering if I could get cheaper thats all .

Hi Chris! Welcome! Think I joined just before ya! (Apparently I'm one of the few girlies on the forum!)
I too have upgraded from a fiat! I had a wee punto proir to my alfa, ao it seemsed a logical step up to make.
I am no help to ya regarding the techy stuff, but I too am about to get my cam belt done, so let me know what your best quote is, will you? (I always feel garages see a woman coming a mile off and rip us off if they can, so if I can get a ball park figure before approaching them, this would help). Cheers x

Re: Hello

Yeah will do . Ive moved to an alfa as a step down believe it or not! .

I had a 2006 Grande Punto Sporting JTDm with all the kit but I lost my job 3 months ago and I need to move out and ive got a baby due in feb so I had to sell it clear the finance and whats left buy a car (Alfa 156 ).

I really do love the car but there is that thought in the back of my mind wishing I bought an older punto sporting now as I could do ALL the mainenence on it myself .

Maybe this feeling will pass once ive got all the work done and parted with the cash .

On the plus side there is a Non-Alfa garage in my area that will do it for £350 providing they can source the cam lock kit from one of their partner garages. They are a good garage as I've used them many times before and my dads friends with the owner so I trust them .

You owe me 10 for a new keyboard because I just spat beer all over this one when I read your post.

I once went there in desparation for a 'half price' MOT... they charged be 10 to realign the headlights... never again.

Re: Hello

Hi and welcome, glad you joined, I've yet to do the timing chain on my alfa, I expect it to cost me around $400cd. I ordered all the manuals from International in US so my mechanic can fix anything I need. Cheers.Hope you get a good price.
