Newbie looking for a v6 166

Hell o *.*,

Not yet an Alfa owner, but I always wanted one (and a classic Mustang too, but that's another topic:-)). I believe J. Clarkson said once, that "nobody can be a petrolhead until they’ve owned an Alfa". So...

I'm looking for a 3-4 years old manual v6 166, probably importing from England, since the selection here in Dublin is not that great. I'm going to drive the car home to Hungary (and back) in April, so I have about 3 months to find the perfect one. I already found the list what to look for here, thanks. If I get one I'd like to have it fully loaded (xenon, leather etc), but I'd like to hear your advice about 2.5l vs 3l. I'd go for the 3l, purely because I want a car with over 200 bhp, but the huge fuel/tyre/shock/etc bill might change my mind. There are 2 cars I'm looking at at the moment, this and this. Any advice?

Thanks
Klapanciusz (Dublin)

Hi Klapanciusz,

you should be able to get a tasty v6 in Dublin for around 7000 Euro so I think those uk cars are well overpriced once you take vrt into account.

Apparently there will be a bunch off lease in early January. Maybe you should scour cbg and carzone until then and make sure to have Gerry Campbell of TI autos check the car out for you. Well worth 60 Euro in my view.

There's a guy called Damien Rock ( a bit of a boyo on 855 9400 on the North Strand) who might be able to help you) Don't mention my name as he and I had a difference of opinion about the price of a car a few days ago and I am not his bosom buddy at this stage.

You should be able to find a total minter if you wait a while. I found mine in a month and have it 24 hours at this stage!!

best regards,

Richard

Re: Newbie looking for a v6 166

Hell o Richard,

great info, thanks, however I'm not sure I'll get a low mileage v6 with full leather, xenon and manual, but I'll give it a try. I'm on carzone every day, and almost bought a 156 v6 in August on cbg, but it wasn't in great shape and it was too small for me (bumped my head a few times in the roof). I was thinking about asking cartell.ie to check out the car allright, but an Alfa specialist is a much preferrable option, thanks again. Almost forgot, my better half doesn't like silver cars, and I don't think there are 166s in Alfa red, but I'll keep trying to find the right colur for both of us.

Re: Newbie looking for a v6 166

Another try to join the owners club. What do you think about this car? I did the hpi check, and the car seems to be genuine. Before I organize a RAC check, do any of you happen to know this car? I don't want to fly over just to find a lemon..

thanks
K.
