Hello, and 156 buying advice please..

Good morning...

Let me introduce myself - I've always had an interest in Alfas since my Dad had a Sud ti 1.5 in 1979 which had the most amazing exhaust note.

I came close to having a 145 Cloverleaf as my last lease car but went for a Bravo HGT instead which I must say was fantastic. At the time though the HGT was really a bit of a substitute for the Fiat Coupe which I lusted after. Now, nearly 10 years later I have a 98 Coupe 20VT LE and it is gorgeous and goes like a train.

Enough already - back to Alfas. The reason that an Alfa now looms as a possible purchase is that Mrs. Repoman wants to change her car which is an owned from new Multipla JTD which has now done 80,000 virtually trouble free miles. In some way I'd like to keep it as I think its worth more to keep than the 3.5K its probably worth.

I've edited this post and put my request for buying advice in the 156 section - obliged if anyone can assist...

welcome to AO dude....

basic buying advice is...

a full service history from a main dealer or reputable indie specialist
cambelt and tensioner change every 36k or 3 yrs, whichever is sooner
for Twinnies make sure the oil is up to the top mark, ask what oil has been used, ideally 10w 40w semi synthetic
make sure it has all its keys, they are expensive to get cut and re-programmed
make sure all the electrics work...

if you get a well maintained example you should have years of happy motoring, just make sure that you look after her

all the best and happy Alfa hunting
