Wave Back in the fold again!

Hi all

Okay I know it's not my first post, but let's do this properly...... I'm 35, live in Leeds just up the road from Turin Motors and have just purchased my fourth Alfa.

I've always had a soft spot for the Alfa Sprint, and the more I read about them, the more I fell in love. Not long into my first job, and my first year of car ownership (Astra...) I bought one - a chrome-bumper '82 Y-reg Sprint Veloce 1.5, which I still [just about] own. It had a leaking front caliper, a fair splattering of rust, and some lovely matt grey paint sprayed over some of its original silver, but I saved it. I couldn't afford to run it or insure it, but I kept it and did some minor jobs on it.

A year or two later, I traded in my Astra for an Alfa 33 1.7 Veloce, an F-reg in shiny black. I was an Alfa driver at last, joined the AROC and went to many an Alfa Day in it. I loved the handling and the popping and banging of the twin carbs on overrun. I graduated to a 155 2.0TS in Alfa Red, with the Sportpack with the later graphite wheels and a lovely Momo walnut steering wheel. It too was a cracking car, and very reliable, but when it reached 100K I traded it for a Subaru Impreza and haven't driven an Alfa since. (Is P324FGM still out there?)

Until now. I've just collected my 'new' silver Alfa Sprint 1.5 Green Cloverleaf - the exact model I'd hankered after for all those years. It's a 1986 model and has spent most of it's life in Dublin being cared for by TI Autos, who seem to have a very good reputation according to many on here. In 2003, it was imported to England to Worcester - ironically my home town - re-registered as a 'C'-reg, though it should have been a 'D', and was driven until 2004, since when it has been stored in a garage in Hull - ironically where I lived before I moved to Leeds. It has 80K on the clock and pretty good bodywork for a 20-yr old Sprint.

It also has a brand new MOT, but hasn't been serviced since it was last on the road. I only collected it on Thursday, and it was mostly fine on the motorway journey home, but I did discover something amiss with the front suspension on the local roads - I suspect a seizing strut bearing or disintegrating rubber suspension bushes or something - hopefully nothing major. It needs to be investigated when it goes for a fluids and filters service.

I was impressed with £111 classic car insurance from Lancaster, and it should get its tax disc in the morning! Happy days

Anyone with a Sprint or Sud or 33, or with experience of Yorkshire specialists, please share your experieinces, and watch out for photos and a 'what's up with my suspension' post in the near future....

cheers
Paul

Cheers Wrinx! Is that public information or do you have special powers?

I've always kept a lookout for P324 FGM but never seen it since. I traded it in Derby, and it had a DTM twin-pipe Supersprint exhaust and two white serpents on the rear windows in proper Tarquini style!
