New to Alfa Romeo-Intro

hello!

i just purchased my 1st. Alfa, since owning one briefly in the 70s! my ignorance of "all things Alfa" will become painfully clear as i will be boring most of you w/all kinds of inane questions.....

on Tuesday(07Nov) i flew up to Annapolis, MD & bought a very pretty 1991 Spider & drove it back down to SoFlorida--about an 1100 mile trip. i was very pleased & surprised at how well the Spider performed. of course the Alfa has a few minor problems i'm already starting to remedy: tires, a few 'rattles' & squeaks', several missing interior screws & bolts, etc. hopefully all the normal 'tweaking' processes will be done very shortly...

my 1st question involves your nomenclature--i notice that throughout your site you use numbers to denote Alfa models--is there a glossary, or, somewhere i can find out what-numbers-refer-to-what-Alfas??? or can someone tell me what number is used for a '91 Spider???

i'm looking forward to learning from all you Alfa enthusiasts out there!

thanks & regards,
Slam105

Welcome to AO and I hope you get many hours of enjoyment with the Spider.

As regards the numbers, I assume you mean references to 75, 145, 147, 156 etc. If so that's just what Alfa have decided to label their cars. Rather than giving them names like Giulietta, Spider etc. they've just given them numbers. The likes of the GT, GTV and Brera are the exceptions. You can vist the Alfa Romeo homepage and view the current range or you can visit the galleries on this very forum and match the numbers to the type of car.

Hi and welcome, glad you found us, enjoy looking around the site. My 93 is a S4 like alfagi's. We are put in the classic section. Cheers.

Re: New to Alfa Romeo-Intro

I'd say yours was a 115 although most Europeans would likely argue with that designation and insist on the 105 that you seem to be using.

The Spider FAQ link is a good one. One of our moderators has a classic Alfa site that is also worth a quick look: www.alfaclassico.com.

Oh and shame on you. Southerners aren't supposed to be driving north and taking the few rust-free cars that live there.

Re: New to Alfa Romeo-Intro

thanks for your response.

actually the "105" in my screen name has nothing to do w/the Alfa... it really refers to something completely different.

i 'rescued' the Spider from being sent out to California! at least i'm keeping it on the East Coast!

thanks, again & regards,
