Some twenty odd years ago I used to pick my daughter up from her nursery school in my Black 164 T spark Lusso. It was a fantastic car, never let me down in 160,000 miles in three years. I swore I would buy another Alfa and last weekend I did.

Or rather I bought one for my daughter. Thanks to the bay of e I picked up a 37k low mileage, with eye watering service invoice history for the few miles it has done, 2003 vintage Silver 147 Lusso. The heated leather interior is mint, apart from the worn clutch pedal and floppy gear stick having spent most of its life in London in traffic, but the exterior is a little rough around the edges but nothing our local paint guy can't solve for a couple of hundred.

It need the belts doing, a service and the thermostat has stuck but I'll do all that stuff myself and have already purchased the belt kits, the thermostat, filter and have taken advantage of Europarts oil sale for some fully synthetic 5-40 at £12.49 for 5 litres. At that price I stocked up a little.

I paid less for the car in total than a service at 21,000 miles cost the first owner.....which was £1228

I gave the car a little try out on the way home and the engine note brought back quite a few nice memories. The daughter might find it difficult getting this car off me once its been fettled.

I normally play about with Cobra replicas so a bit of Italian flair might make a nice change....

Thanks guys,

I had a half hour spare today so I thought I would see if the locking wheel nuts had welded themselves into the hubs. I've had a few locking wheel nuts do this to me but the first one on the Alfa was literally finger tight and the other three span off without any problems.

So a bit of copperslip on each and I've reused them.

I'm itching to change to belts, thermostat and gearchange bushes but I've no time until next week......doesn't stop me ordering a genuine Alfa clutch pedal rubber though....

I've never bought a clutch pedal rubber in my life before, sheer extravagance!!.......This does not bode well for the future.
