Sportwagon 2.4 JTD

I have been running a 2.4 diesel sportwagon for the last twelve months. Most of the time I love it but do not like the way it bottoms out all the time and the mudflaps scrape on fast long corners!!! Also hard accelearation does leave a black smoke screen and the Alfa dealer seems unable to cure it.

Still I have done 40,000 mile in the twelve months and overall it has been fun.

Does anyone have any ideas about curing the smoke screen and out of curiosity has anyone contemplated fitting a selespeed box to one of these?

Hi jaybee

I'm afraid I can't help you on either front. Would be interested to see / hear how you get on though - esp with the selespeed side of things

Re: Sportwagon 2.4 JTD

Hi Jaybee & welcome to AO

Bottoming out etc should not occur at standard ride height... has the suspension on your car been lowered?

Ref' Selespeed conversion... on GTA's the selespeed systems operate via the standard gearbox & clutch, but gear change commands input via computer controlled hydro-electric actuators. Conversion for your car is probably theoretically possible, but would no doubt be horrendously expensive.

I'm not a diesel driver so I can't comment on the smoke screen issue, but I hope you get it sorted

Re: Sportwagon 2.4 JTD

i had the same problem - the 2.4 is a heavy block and on country roads it was a bit embarassing..! I got my frinedly (non-Alfa) garage to fit new springs and shockers eibach and the car was and continues to be transformed. The ride height was lower (about an inch) but haven't bottomed out since and i must have done over 60K on them..
