To Alfa or not to Alfa?

Hi everyone

I've been browsing around this forum for a few hours and it looks like a friendly and helpful place. I'm a long-time Saab driver, having owned four 9000's and I'm currently on a 2001 9-5 Aero Estate which I've had for ten years so I think it's time for a change! It's a lovely car but the GM bits keep breaking, and it's getting pretty expensive to run.

I've always liked cars that aren't run-of-the-mill and so I'm considering a Giulietta. I drove a 170bhp 2.0JTD Veloce (almost 3 years old, 13k miles) on Saturday and I must admit I was surprised how quick it was, it felt almost up there with the Aero. I live in the Yorkshire Dales so something that can overtake motorhomes as quickly as possible on twisty roads is a requirement . I really liked the car although visibility is rather poor and I didn't manage to get the seat position really comfortable. I have been spoiled by Saab in that regard of course.

I came close to buying a 156 when they first came out but the dealer didn't seem interested in selling me one (I'm still waiting for the brochure) and so ended up with my fourth Saab, a 9000 CSE. My only other experiences with Italian cars is a Fiat 132 I had as a company car back in the late 70s - after the Cortina they gave me at first it was marvellous but none too reliable. I well remember the engine cooling fan failing on a hot day in central London, and having to run the heater at maximum with all the windows open to stop the engine overheating! Reliability is still a concern with the Giulietta but the salesman tells me it's fine now. Well he would, wouldn't he? Anyway I look forward to reading owners' opinions, and maybe joining you in the near future

PS check out the Tech Lounge Alfa Giulietta - Alfa Romeo Forum if you haven't already done so, you'll find plenty of advice & info there.

Look forward to you joining us soon with your shiny new Giulietta. If you want that extra bit of power you can get the JTD remapped safely to around 200bhp for just over the 300 mark. A few places like Gus at Alfatune and AHM can do it. AHM AlfaFiatCare - Alfa Romeo Remaps & DPF Removal
