Cutch questions

hi
i have to replace the engine on my 1998 156 1.8, it broke within 24hours of buying the damn thing that said it was the best 24 hours of driving ive ever had ! Im just curious as to whether its nessecary to change the release bearing along with the clutch? as the clutch plate no the new engine i bought is only 40%. i decided i might as well change the whole clutch, so im going to buy a kit which i thought included a release bearing. But apparently it dosent, the bearing isnt expensive but i dont want to waste money on something i dont need the current one seems in good condition.
the new engine has 53,000 miles im also wondering what is the life of the clutch and bearing meant to be?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Cutch questions

Always best to change the bearing at the same time as the clutch they only last slightly longer than the clutch & the cost of replacement is the same as fitting a clutch once it does go so you might as well sort it for the amount extra it'll add now

Re: Cutch questions

It might also be worth changing the slave cylinder while the gearbox has been cracked...it's inside the bellhousing!
