Second (third?) time around.
Many years ago, while I was working in the Middle East, I bought a slightly down-at-heel Alfetta GTV to use when I was home on leave. Areas of the body left something to be desired as did the colour (Blu Pervincola, anyone?). But it went like the proverbial off a shovel and made A to B an adventure every time, no matter how far A was from B.
Time - and the Alfetta - moved on but I never forgot it. Two years ago I retired (yes, I am that old) and I had more time (but no more money) and plodded on with the car I'd had for years, a trusty Mk 1 Punto I bought new. Just before Christmas some psycho decided to amuse himself by deliberately driving into three parked cars in my road and pushing them elsewhere. Mine was one of them and was written off.
With very limited funds I went looking for a replacement. At my age your head and your heart are still in conflict and, this time, the heart won.
I've just bought a 2004 147 1.6 TS Lusso in Rosso Alfa with under 50,000 miles. As you would expect, it has the odd bodywork mark but nothing that a summer of careful work won't cure. Driving it for the first time brought back a lot of memories and I now intend to get the fun back into driving over the coming months. It is so much more than just transport, isn't it?
