Hi - Question!

Hi All

Have just registered and i have my first query!

I am considering purchasing a gtv 2.0 ts 1999 (T) which has 67k on the clock. Now i have read the various reviews and true there are issues to look for - but what should i be looking for when viewing this vehicle ie full history, cam changes, sus change, engine issues, electrics etc. what should i focus my due diligence on?

Also (this one is a strange question!) has anyone put a bike rack on their gtv? i have seen a few on the net that attach to the rear of the car but want to know of anyone who has one (i know wierd on a sports car but i love my mountain bike too!!)

Many thanks

Re: Hi - Question!

Even if it DID have a cambelt/tensioner change at 36k, it's due another at 72k, so you'll probably have to get it done anyway.

Not a GTV expert, but I've got my eye on a 3.0 V6 locally so I know they're tempting!

I'm sure someone will be along with some more specific advance, but a full Alfa service history is essential, and listen out for a diesel noise on startup - that'll be a new variator, which is 100 or thereabouts new. Mine in my 147 2.0TS went at the 60k mark, so the one in this GTV may well be on the way out, too.

Good luck

Re: Hi - Question!

Well, the normal thing to worry about with the TS engine is whether its been run low on oil. If they have any invoices look and see if it mentions anything about low oil on the invoice, and when you start the engine listen out for any knocking noises (big-end bearing). Check the oil level, and ask how often the owner checks it. A TS engine can use 1 litre every 1000 miles (i.e., from max to min level on the dipstick), so regular checks are needed to ensure it does not run dry.
