New Alfa Driver.

Having had a company car for 13 years (mondeos/vectras etc) thought i'd take the plunge and opt out of my company car policy. Have for a long time fancied the appeal of a 156 located what i thought was a "nice" low mileage 2003 1.8 ts turismo with 22000 miles and FSH from a local main dealer, having had the car for 6 months and put on 14000 miles it's starting to develop some rather niggly faults ? The brake master cylinder was replaced last week (thankfully under warranty) but still appears to be "not quite right", it was serviced a couple of weeks ago and new pads fitted to front and rear, so am assuming that the pads have not yet bedded in ??. More concering it has recently developed a diesel type sound when the engine is started, i understand this is quite a common problem relating to the cam variator? i doubt the cam belt has been replaced, so would i be right to assume this needs doing or can the variator just be replaced if needed. Having said all that i love the car, just hope it dos'nt end up costing me a fortune, just got rid of one money pit that was the ex missus. Can anyone reccomend a decent independant around the Leeds (west yorks) area.

Re: New Alfa Driver.

Hi and welcome to AO

With 36,000 miles on the clock I'd recommend cam belt and variator replacement.

Replacing any component within a brake system will result in a change in pedal "feel". Maybe the system was not fully bled at the master Cylinder change, but at least give the pads a few miles to run-in.

Sorry but I cant suggest an independant service centre as I'm not based in UK
