156 2.4 JTD 1999

Introduction details.

Car: 156 2.4 JTD 1999 Veloce, owned for 3+ years and maintained by myself.
I struggle to find information /advice and the dealers are very vague.

Jobs to do:
1. Tappets? It has a gentle tappet sounding tick only when warm. Are they adjustable either manualy or shims?
2. Full throttle hesitation/flat spot. Replace the Air flow meter?
3. Is a manual repair/service book available.
4. The tension arm bolt sheared on the auxillary belt. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I order a spare? Would have been an easy repair ,but for the wait for the part.
5. Sorry its a diesel but I am used to the economy and OK performance. Tuning box has been fitted, but used for the flexibilty rather than racing around. Economy has improved and I do not potter around.

Hi and welcome dave, you may be better off posting some of your specific questions under the technical section of the 156 here you'll have more chance of people who can help you seeing your post.

I'm sure they're manually adjusted but not tried yet, mine is rattle free so far!

Err, might be the turbo overboosting (early failure sign). How bad is it, total cut out or just a little fluff? Smaller hesitation might be AFM as you suggest.?

Check eBay for the dealer software DVD, that's all we know of, should be about a fiver.

Not a common problem but depends on the mileage. It happens a lot to our petrol driven cousins but they a little stressed

I am encouraged by the information. as for three years I have been greated by blank looks and no interest but, like the people here I like the car and do not want the depreciation 'sof changing again.

I think the tappets are manualy adjustable aswell. Any more info welcome.


The occasional flat spot is just that/ Some times accelerates like a stabbed rat, other times a slight pause at various revs.
