Help GTV V6 - electric wondows dont "drop"

Hi ..

Have recently (very recently .. last weekend in fact) .. purchased a lovely GTV V6 .. in gun metal grey with cream leather interior.

Registered in March 2000 -- it has all the gadgets needed - air con; 6-speed gearbox .. those lovely 17" wheels, spoiler .. etc etc.

It has 55,000 miles and has just gone into a specialist to have its belt changed (better safe than sorry me thinks!).

The question I have is ....

I was told that on this car the windows ought to drop a little when the door is opened, and then close properly when the door is closed again ... however the car doesnt do this !

The chap who is doing the cambelt for me -- has contacted an Alfa person, and this Alfa person swears that the car ought to have this "drop window" function.

I hate to have a car as nice as this and find something doesnt work on it .. so I need to find out the truth .. and get it sorted.

1) how so I go about finding out if the car does have this function?
2) what should I look for to find out what has stopped working ? (is it a relay thing, a switch .. something simple and cheap (perhaps not !) .. or something horrendously expensive !?)

Please excuse my novice ways - but I am really keen to learn more about these cars .. hope someone out there can give me the advice and guidance.

Thanks

Ian

p.s the engine absolutely sings to me -- I swear its name is Pavarotti !

Welcome to AO.

The drop-seal function on the GTV windows was introduced on later models.

I have a sneaky suspicion this was when they introduced the face lift but couldn't swear to it.

If no one can anser your question on the GTV section then I suggest you ring an Alfa dealer with your chassis number and ask them.

Re: GTV V6 - electric wondows dont "drop"

Welcome
Mine is a 2001 and the passenger side does it but the drivers doesn't, probably one of those 'Italian electrics' things!! Most coupes with no door frame should do it (from when I don't know) as the window doesn't seal very well otherwise. need to get my drivers side looked at but it doesn't bother me too much.

Check to see if it happens on passenger side, when you close the door it should go up a bit

You should be able to see it working when you close the doors, and if it isn't, you can always do it manually. (Not working, the door won't close properly and the top of the window will be caught by about a quarter of an inch over the top of the window surround.)
