Ah well I suppose it didn't actually fall right off but it became disconnected....

Well the daft bit of bent wire (supposed to be a retaining pin of some sort) which was holding the clutch pedal to the push rod came out and the push rod became disconnected from the pedal.

The pedal then went right down to the floor and when I lifted it a bit to see what was wrong, it shot up into the footwell and disappeared from sight. As it did this it took out the cruise control switch and I later found the clip inside the hollow foot rest.

Any way I drove around for a week with it held together with a couple of cable ties

Alfa supplied a proper retaining clip although a traditional split pin would have done the trick - I have no idea why they didn't fit something proper at the factory.

More annoying than disasterous but it reminded me of my first company car - ford sierra, the clutch pedal on that was forever disappearing from view when the auto adjusting mechanism gave up.

Cheers

Mark
