A very poorly car

I have just joined the forum after spending a few hours looking for technical assistance following a rather dramatic cambelt failure. (156 1.8TS 97)

I have put a new cambelt on to check for compression (and in the vain hope it might not have done any damage) none in any cylinder.

I am now dismantlying the cylinder head and have got the exhaust manifold and coolant manifold off before droping my ring spanner into the back of the engine compartment and retiring for a tharaputic beer.

I plan to get the head refurbuished, found a couple of places for 300-400 and stick it back on and hope for the best.

I fancy myself as being fairly handy but in parctice this is the most taxing automotive project I have embarked upon. Anyone out there with a clue how these things work??

Re: A very poorly car

I got the car at 49k and had a cambelt put on at around 70k its now done 110k so it probably could have been avoided with a bit of tlc.

Re: A very poorly car

Yep.If the car was worth more i'd have it fixed. If I didn't love it I would scrap it. Only two options left, fix it or make such a hash of trying to fix it that I have no choice but to scrap it and mourn the loss.

Welcome to AO.

And good luck with your 156, and kudos for wanting to repair it.
