Wave hi there, newbie with a question about cheap Alfa's

Hi there I'm looking for a cheap run about at the moment, my old MR2 was very rusty and wouldn't pass another MOT i hardly used it anyway but the insurance on my TVR is a classic policy so need to own a main vehicle so been thinking of an Alfa, never had one before so fancy giving it a try, the car will probably be used a few days a week, and maybe a bit of commuting too and from work at later date, now i've heard some horror story's towards Alfa and reliability, is this the same rubbish people spout about TVR even though they never owned one?

I need something i can jump in and go, but needs to be enjoyable too, but the main thing needs to be dirt cheap too as the TVR has a habit of emptying my wallet whenever it smells money so thinking of something no more than 6-700, with a long MOT, not sure which model but like the 155.

Any recommendations? Is this possible on my budget or do I go jap again?

Welcome Paul. A well maintained Alfa is as reliable as any other car. You should be able to pick up a decent 155 or 146 for £700 is you buy privately. Good luck looking.

excellent, I'm pretty handy with the spanners so can keep it serviced and fix any problems that come up but don't fancy being left at the road side too often lol. So a 155 is a best bet then?

Depends what you mean by best really. If you can get a 146ti or a 155 v6 both are good cars with quite a high specification. I'd go for the 155 v6 if I were you, as it is a v6, but then it depends how important economy is to you etc for this car. The best thing to do really is to try a few and see what you think.

I'd like the V6 but there seems to be more 2.0 cars out there for my sort of budget. Guess as you say it's down to personal taste. As for economy my other car is a 5 litre V8 so any should seem pretty good lol
