Wave Hello Alfaowner.com

Hello,

Bought a '97 Spider in Africa Grey (I think? gunmetal type of colour) with the Lusso pack and exceptionally low mileage for the year (31k), I am made up!
I have driven all sorts in my time but have got to say, what a lot of car for the money!
It is comfortable, responsive, hugs the corners, looks like a catwalk queen (at least it will once I have changed the alloys) and sounds like a beast.
I am only in awe as to why it has taken me so long to buy one in the first place.
Heres hoping it spends more time on the road than in the Alfa garage, after some of the horror stories I have heard.

James.

Re: Hello Alfaowner.com

Welcome. I hope you have a great experience with your Alfa.

I hope she doesn't handle like a cat-walk queen on stilettos! May be a bit wobbly at speed!

.....I know, I know, he said she LOOKS like one (before you all rush to correct me! LOL

Welcome to AO mate

Is it rude to ask how much you paid for her?

I am thinking of getting one for the sunny days away from the motorways!

Re: Hello Alfaowner.com

In answer to your questions and to ask a few more, the cambelt hasn't been done yet as far as I know - I was under the impression that it was part of the 36k service, mine has only just done 32k, have I got it wrong?
I haven't experienced the infamous scuttle shake I have heard about at high speed, is this a standard thing with the spider or just with the odd few?
As for Photos, I will take a few once I get it back from the Alfa garage, took the oil sump out on a speed bump this morning at 10mph (350 later...), sueing the council as we speak, in there wisdom they put the illegal oversized hump right in front of a raised manhole on a camber. Is there any sort of casing you can get to protect the exposed bolts, the cast steel casing just sheered off on contact with the manhole, unlike other cars that were just graized.
I wont say what I paid for the love of my roadgoing life, but it was well below the book price of 6k (Calculated by finance co., taking into consideration spec and mileage)
I was lucky enough to be the first to see it though, right place, right time. I have not seen one since with similar mileage and less flaws for less than 8k.
It took me three months of touring the southern half of the country to find mine, there are so many bad ones out there and the good ones sell within hours of advertising with ten to fifteen people chasing them down, it is hard work!

Re: Hello Alfaowner.com

The cam belt should be changed every 36,000 miles OR every 3 years, which ever comes first.

If the belt on your car has never been changed it is now 9 years old!!

IMO, the cam belt, balance belt, auxiliary belt and their respective tensioners should be replaced as a matter of urgency.

Absolutely agree, just got back from aranging some work at the very good intaservices of leicester and if you'd just seen the remains of a cambelt that i'd just seen...............it dosen't bear thinking about and that was from a supposedley bullet proof 3.2 V6 put it this way i've just revised when I'll be changing mine!!!!!!!!!!
