Thumbs Up Hello AO from AR Newbie

Hi All,

My name is Jim and I'm...er "mature". I've always had a soft spot for anything Italian and Alfa in particular. The 105 Bertone coupe has been a favourite since childhood. Impulsively (how very AO? ) I bought a barn find 1973 2000GTV coupe off Ebay -unseen. It has been in a barn (well 2 different owners barns, actually) for 21 years and it had spent its first 7 years in S Africa. Only 16000 kms from new and believed true having spoken to the last two owners the earlier one boought it from the original S.A. family who brought it back when they repatriated. It is very solid, a few minor signs of tin worm here and there but it was stripped out for a bare metal respray and nothing was put back. It's not a brilliant paint job to be honest but it will do for now. The interior trim is shoddy and not fitted bar the cracked dash/wheel and wires are hanging everywhere. I'm no mechanic and have no restoration experience to speak of so it will be a challenge. First job has been to get her fired up but she is steadfastly refusing to play so far. I've joined here as a potential good source of advice and maybe even support when the inevitable "dark" days occur when I think I've bitten off too much! Thanks for reading. Jim

Re: Hello AO from AR Newbie

Cheers.

I know the 1750 is "the one to have" but they are all sweet. It's got potential. I don't want a trailer queen either. A nice usable condition is my target, then maybe some further improvements for handling, performance and looks as they come along or funds allow.

There's a healthy following on here for the newer stuff too, I see. A good sign for the future.

Re: Hello AO from AR Newbie

Personally I like the interior of the orginal Giulia Sprint GT, but the looks in general plus the driving experience is the most important.

The 2000 engine has a different caracter then the 1750. The 1300s, 1600s and 1750 really like to rev, where the 2000 is way more practical thanks to the torque at low revs

Hi Jim,
Welcome to AO and best of luck with your restoration

I've done a few restorations over the years but they've all been motorcyles.... British, German & American machines from the 60's, 70's & 80's, and much easier & less costly to restore than cars. What I can tell you is that the satisfaction on completion of a successful project is enormous, so stay with it

Re: Hello AO from AR Newbie

Thanks to everyone for the welcome and encouragement. I tried uploading a couple of pics but the thumbs were too small and I guessed the 2MB originals too big. I'll look into that again even if it means e-mailing them from my Mac to my works laptop and fiddling on that to get them small enough to post. All the best chaps!
