Alfa Romeo 147Ti

Hmmm Greetings to all!

May I introduce myself...

I'm Steve. In June 2004, I was lucky enough to be able to afford a brand-new car. This car was to be my first ever new car! I've been a life long car enthusiast and my passion lies equally with Jaguar and Mercedes Benz. So what new car could I afford?
Well, my short list was a Jaguar X Type Sport or a Mercedes C Class coupe. So what did I end up buying?...

An Alfa Romeo 147 Twinspark Lusso Ti!

In the end, I didn't really like the styling of the Jag. And I couldn't really afford the Mercedes with the spec I wanted. I even looked at buying a nearly new example. The Mercedes dealership found a car that matched my requirements. At 18.5K it wasn't cheap. When I enquired about warranty, I was offered 12 months, take it or leave it. So I left it!

On the way home from the Merc dealer, I decided to call in at the local Alfa dealer. I didn't know much about Alfa's but I always admired their styling, especially the 156 and 147 models.

Anyway, at ten to five on a Saturday afternoon, we entered the showroom. (we equates to me and my boss ,er, I mean missus) I daren't make a car buying decision without the boss's approval! Straight away, we both spotted a car that attracted both our attentions. It had "buy me" written all over it.

The price plaque on the roof displayed £17,020. "Less than the price of a used Merc with only 12 months warranty" I thought! A friendly salesman came over and, as they do, asked "Like any help?"

I responded with "I want that car. I have £***.** much to spend on a deposit, a 1992 Mercedes E300 to p/x and a monthly budget of £***.**. If you can work the figures out to fit my budget and include a five year warranty, I'll sign the dotted line today".

Numerous figures were displayed to me. None of which matched my budget. By twenty to seven, (one hour and forty minutes after the showroom had closed) a somewhat flustered salesman and dealership manager appeared once again from their respective offices. At last, my perseverence won the day and the deal was done!

The following Friday afternnon, we returned to the dealership and took delivery of our brand new Alfa 147 Ti in Sterling Silver with only six miles on the odometer. The friendly salesman was keen to show me what all the buttons did and how loud the stereo was. I was more interested in driving the thing!

I just bought a seventeen grand car on impulse and I hadn't even test driven it! What if I don't like it?...

My concerns were soon forgotten. From the dealership, we headed straight for the Derbyshire dales. Not too far away but far enough to get a feel for our new car. Once there, I tested the Ti on all my favourite driving roads. The Alfa was sublime!

Do I have any regrets? None at all!!!

I've now added Alfa Romeo to my Marques of passion list!!!

Re: Greetings to all!

What a story, and I am glad it had such a happy ending!

That does tend to happen with alfas. I had set my budget at 15k and intended to but a GTA about now, 6 months ago I contacted a specialist that was recommended to me. To my surprise he had one coming in the next week, so I test drove it and that was that. It was a bit over budget but had a lot of options, and as I test drove it on my birthday I thought it was fate.

They are addictive welcome to the forum.

Welcome to AlfaOwner'hood

Alfa do a pretty good job of making you connect with their cars, rather than efficiently cocooning you from the experience - it makes even small trips a little more special.

Best of luck with your new purchase,

TB

Owning an Alfa is normally done with the Heart and not (or is it Before) the head.

Welcome along
