New old car questions...

Hi

New to the forum, and attempting a first foray into Alfa ownership, specifically a 147 2.0 TS manual.

During the research we've come across an unused (and unreg) new old stock car, apparently imported from Italy. It's build date is Sept 03, and it's competitively priced against a very low mileage used equivalent UK car of the same date.

The main concern (and question!) is - do 147s handle sitting around for a couple of years? It was apparently at the factory storage facility.

Anyone have any thoughts?

And... I know the major issue with a TS is to ensure the cambelt is done at 36k, and that water ingress can be a problem for 147s - but are there any other 'quirks' that can afflict them?

Ta!

Re: New old car questions...

Standing still is of course not good for any car. The cambelt is 2.5 years old and not used. Personally I would replace it before delivery.

For the rest the gear stick doesn't like standing still either. But you would notice that immediately when test driving (gear stick doesn't want to go back to neutral, and you have to guide the gear stick in stead of gently pushing it)

For the rest seems like a good deal.

BTW Welcome on board

Tim.
There was a batch of fire damaged Alfas for sale, which had got caught up in a maritime accident and became insurance write offs.
be carefull it might be one of them.

Welcome to AO by the way.

Re: New old car questions...

Thanks for the info guys.

I have experienced the gearshift problem in the one 147 I've test driven (at our local Alfa dealer...) which led me to change very neatly back to 1st from 2nd although I was aiming for 3rd!

I think it may be worth pursuing with eyes wide open (and wallet tightly shut).

I will be back! (I can just imagine the 'help' posts now...)
