Almost new 147 owner

About ot buy a 147 selespeed lusso, was about to clinch the deal but remembered hearing somewhere the need for a "master" red key, which is needed in the event of a flat battery. Is that still the case?

Re: Almost new 147 owner

I think they stopped using the master key system some time ago.

My "52" reg 147 has only the standard two black keys from new, three years ago.

(The 145 I had did have the two red keys and the brown master key.)

Re: Almost new 147 owner

There is no master key, only the regular (2) keys.

And -in case you are not from the UK- there is a code card with the electronic code and the mechanical code.

Thanks for info. Downloaded a guide from usedcarexpert.com which had that information and suggested if the master red key was missing to negotiate a 2.5k discount. Will happily post this guide, but looks like it is inaccurate! thanks again

I had a quick look at their website... I doubt their "expert" advice is that valuable.

If you require answers and recommendations you should find most things here.

Reading some of the posts on AO should give you an idea of any common problems but remember that a forum is where people post problems so it could appear that Alfas are more troublesome than they actually are.

The Alfa 147 is generally a releable car built to quality standards that compare with other makes. They do however require good maintainence and a full service history (with cam belt changes at 36,000 miles/3 yearsfor twin-spark, petrol engines).

The Selespeed system can cause problems and improvements have been made during recent years. If you need more feedback about this someone should be able to help.

Welcome to AO ceej_t, if you want more information specific to the car you are looking to buy please ask, again somebody here should be able to help.

'A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.' - Henry Ford.
