Alfa Spider advice!!!

Hi all,

I recently (4 months ago) bought & now drive a 1996 alfa spider and recently the following has happened:

The ABS light has come on: Mechanic's alfa computer was not working so I have to go back next week. He says that the brakes are fine mechanically but that a sensor may be gone or worse...

The passenger airnag light is on: Mechanic again could not fully assess due to his computer being down. He said I may need a new control panel or worse...

Anybody any ideas on how bad these issues could or what is the best case scenario. Are these expensive issues to rectify.

The hood is on great condition and I would like to keep it that way. Any advise on how to maintain the hood and back window would be great. The hood is mo hair. What do I clean and protect it it with and any products that help maintain or bring back the original color?

Re: Alfa Spider advice!!!

Welcome to AO...

You really should post these questions in the techie lounge, a greater number of people will read them I reckon

But from the top of my head:

ABS; probably a faulty sender, or the toothed ring on a driveshaft has split open because of rust. In either case, I think the parts required will be around 150 and then some 1.5 hours of labour.

Airbag; probably just a dodgy connection. Disconnect and renonnect all connectors a couple of times, and then have the ECU reset, that should keep it going for at least a year before the error rears it's ugly head again...

Oh, and post some pictures of your new motor...
