Hello...

Quick intro.. I am Lynn, I am a 30 year old mum and student and nuts about cars/bikes and motorsport.. I have only been driving for 3 years and spent much of that with rovers, mostly metros, having had all from a mg metro turbo to a 1800vvc gti. But had numerous other things in between ranging from 200sx turbo to a 3.5 v8 vogue se range rover... I also ride motorbikes...although currently do not have one.

I decided to do my rally marshal training this year and have organised a couple of track days... as I like to be hands on around motorsport rather than just watching it. I am on my final year of a degree course and as such decided to treat myself to a 147 selespeed... Already getting people telling me to get a spare car... but then thats what people said about my metros... and never had a problem with them. so fingers crossed.

Anyway.. hi.. I have been reading through as this seems a very good and informative site..

hello and welcome lynn

just ignore those people who are telling you to get a spare car as they are just being horrible and jealous as you have got a better car than them

Re: Hello...

Well if I was to worried on public opinion I would never had stuck with k series engines for so long... but I wanted a alfa for a long time..although it was a 156 I was looking at previously and I love the older alfas too. To be fair.. the Alfa's are one of the few modern car designs that I like because they dont all look the same.. like the new fiesta= baby focus and the polo a baby golf and they all look similar.

Post some pics of whatever you like, but if you're worried the moderators might complain you'd best PM them to me!

Welcome! - nice to have some more girlies around!

You've been driving for only three years, and you have had that many cars???? What, do you only keep your cars for a few weeks at a time????

Nothing wrong with Rovers (I loved both of mine) - and don't let anyone here tell you otherwise!

(btw, you are welcome to post any pics you like )

Re: Hello...

Hi Lynn, Wellcome to AO In spite of only 3 years driving experience you are quite obviously a serious petrol-head.

I also had an MG Metro Turbo many years ago and it was fun at the time, but lethal in corners.

Anyway, how do you like your 147 selespeed so far?

PS:
My most recent Bike was a Honda 750 NightHawk which I used for rapid daily commuting. I had intended to replace it with a Yamaha R1, but finally had to concede that I would be safer on four wheels.

Re: Hello...

I think in total in 3 years I have had 28 cars..and 3 bikes.. thing is we always have 2-3 at a time and I did have 5 at one point.. ie.. my sensible car, his sensible car, my toy, his toy and something for off roading.. lol

I havent actually picked up my 147 yet but did get a nice long test drive..and can not wait to pick it up.

I have had no standard gti metro's so not sure how they are in standard form as all mine had 1.8s slapped in and uprated suspension.. but I did enjoy them but they were costing me to much money.

thanks for all the welcomes..

My first (and still most impressive) spin on a public road was in an MG Metro!

I remember it vividly, in fact almost as vividly as my life flashed before my eyes every time you took a corner at pornographic speeds happy days

Anyway back on topic, welcome aboard Lynn - always nice to have another proper petrol-head on here Which 147 are you getting, the 2 litre?

Yup... well out of the cars I have had my major issues were with one 200sx( other was fine) and the 3 mg metro's( I dont think the gearboxes liked my driving... I even had to replace whole engine in one)

I shall have to see... I shall run the car as is for a bit and then will need to source some more power... or my mates in their 1.8 metros are going to eat me for Breakfast.. lol although at least I can lose in style.

Alot of the parts for mine came from motobuild....I've seen acouple of thier 1.8 16v metros - must be great fun as the 1.4 16v is a very quick little car!

Hope you enjoy thr Alfa

Re: Hello...

one of my mates had a metro turbo lump in his mini with fat 10" wheels. It was so quick off the mark the passenger seat ratchet couldn't take the G's and you ended up flat on your back when he floored it, my god it was fun.

Welcome to AO I'm sure you'll find a lot of like minded individuals here.

Re: Hello...

been down to dealer today. Car will be ready for pick up on Monday around lunch time.. so I am taking a sicky from Uni. ( well actually I have been poorly for 3 days now so not quite a sicky...) Decided to keep the BMW too... so will take the beemer to Uni and back as the parking at Uni is a nightmare and my poor beemer already has 3 new parking dings from people opening the door into it when its left there.

Cant wait... just hope I get some time to go out and drive it... if it hadnt been so close to xmas I would have booked myself a test day at my local track and had it all to myself for the day.. hehe
