Wave hello..

hi, i own a '85 alfa romeo 33 gold cloverleaf. I bought it from a friend at a decent price after he got his new car. I was just looking for any car at the time at it was the cheapest, so i took it. That was one thing i'll never regret.. best car I've driven, and i've driven lots. It needs some TLC but i'm looking forward to rebuilding her when my new car comes year-end. well, thats me, oh ja...and I'm from South Africa.

Re: hello..

Hi there!

I have never driven a 33 but always admired their quirky character.

Yes please post a pic
(I can say this now, guilt free as of yesterday )

Cheers,
TB

Re: hello..

Hi Ace

Welcome to the forum. If you need anything done/spares/etc. I know a few people, and specifically a guy in Durban, who is an expert on the boxer motors.

Be warned, this is your first Alfa. It's like a drug, you will never be satisfied with any other car after this.

Re: hello..

Hi Ace!

I'm also a recent Alfa Newbie. I've owned a few interesting cars in the past but I have to agree with Eric that Alfas are totally addictive.

Re: hello..

thanks guys, really nice avatar eric, is that your current alfa? any help with regards to experienced alfa mechanics would be great. unfortunately when i got the car she wasn't in the greatest condition. and i've discovered that the old alfas are quite prone to rust, especially here on the coast. i've been getting some quotes for rust removal and respray, so hopefully soon she'll be a decent looker again.

Re: hello..

Just keep in mind - and I do not want to be a damper on your enthusiasm here - that 33s are not very collectable. Watch what you spend, it is very easy to over-capitalize.......I know
It is sometimes cheaper to buy a decent body than to fix .

The giardinetta in my avatar is one of my Alfas, yes......and my favourite as well. I have spent 4 years and lots of money (and will continue) to get it this far. See my Garage for the others
Johannesburg is much kinder to the older cars as far as rust is concerned.

I just had the rust removed from my Junior, and that cost 12 K. The rust was not very serious, and nothing structural.

unfortunately i've noticed this. its just that i really like the car and would prefer to spend some cash fixing her up and making her look good than buy a new car. would also like to put some cash into the engine, hopefully give her some more oomph. when i do eventually get a new car i'll keep her as my 'sunday drive' car..dont wanna see her go to waste..
