Re: newbie

yea iv bin searchin thru the forums but the answers cost money ya know. i left the car at alfa garage tday till tuesday i think. it was overheating but engine wasnt hot but temperature gauge inside kept goin to max so i need a new water pump. took it for 60k service durin the week and dat cost flippin 335 for flippin spark plugs. from dat they told me

auxiliary belt is starting to crack
exaust manifold needs replacing
exaust heatshield needs replacing
rear control arms startin to wear out
camshaft variator is noisy
handbrake cable hanging down
air con needs regassing
pollen filter dirty
gear lever stiff

estimate for above jobs = 1600

anyway they r doing the vital job water pump and auxilary belt

Re: newbie

Hi Slikt147. Welcome to AO.

I hope you get all the problems sorted with your car so you can enjoy driving it.

Have you tried getting an independent specialist to look at the car? Their prices should be much cheaper.

Re: newbie

Hi and welcome to AO. Sounds like the previous keeper of the car just didn't look after it, and Car Giant should have checked it over too before selling it. Did it come with a warranty at all?
If not then I'm with Roswell, take it to an independant Alfa specialist.

Good luck.

Re: newbie

They didn't offer any warranty at all ? Good grief!

Whats the legal status on sending it back, since you weren't informed of the true condition of the car?

I don't think I would ever buy a fleet car, generally the people driving them thrash them without regard to the consequences, or required maintenance.

Cheers,
TB

Re: newbie

sorry to hear your problems but surely they should have sold the car with a warranty?! I would certainly be paying them a visit to get them to pay to sort the problems, obviously you will still have to pay for your own servicing but the problems should not have been present when buying, if you get no joy its obviously a big place with a high turnover so park your car outside the main doors with signs saying what crap they sold you and rant and rave at everyone coming in that should a result

Re: newbie

I think Car Giant offer there own warranty, but it costs money and it's one of those ones where if you can't confirm the mileage you have to service the car every 6 months to maintain cover Bad luck mate. I bought my 146 from what was then called The Great Trade Centre. Forked out for an AA check after putting down a 'holding' fee, which did reveal a small oil leak and that one of the wings had either been replaced or repaired. After purchase I had no problems with it, guess I was lucky.

Hope you get yours sorted soon so you may enjoy the Alfa 147 experience.

Re: newbie

yea i got or shuld i say bought warranty wit the car for like 359 for a yr wit a max claim of 1000 but those *****es dont wanna pay for anythin. they r only contributing 179 towards my overheating problem and im forking out around 400 extra.

as for car giant they suck and i did think bout makin some protest outside so ppl know wat happened wit my car but i jus aint got time for dat i need to get my ass to work so i can pay off my overdraft. their so called company policy is dat they cant touch a sold car after a month or 1000 miles.

u guys r talkin bout independent alfa specialist damn do they exist? any1 know any around london im from east london and my car is wit desira at colney hatch lane right now. they charge so much damn

Re: newbie

There are specialist independants that can do as good a job, if not better, for less money. Lets hope someone can point one out for you. In the meantime, why don't you try a search here for 'specialist' and 'independant/ independent' and see what you find.
