Roswell in the spotlight

This time I've got an Alien for ya' all; Here comes Roswell;

Forum name

Roswell

Real name

I’d rather not say. I prefer the degree of anonymity my username allows me.

Age

33

Occupation

Trained as a Toolmaker. Currently working as a CNC Setter/Operator for a large power tools manufacturer.

Lives

County Durham, England.
Marital Status

Single but I have a girlfriend.

What cars do you drive and why?

1999 156 1.8 T-Spark Sportpack in Africa Grey metallic.

I had wanted a 156 ever since first seeing one and this one was in an ‘unusual’ colour.

Would you describe yourself as passionate about Alfa Romeo?

If passionate can be interpreted as a love/hate relationship then yes.

What or how started your passion for Alfa Romeo and…
… do you think it’s fundamental to own one to have the passion?

Firstly seeing the all conquering 155s win the BTCC in 1994 and then visiting the Alfa Romeo display stand at The Motor show in 1998 and sitting in the then new 156 and relatively new GTV.

Yes. Sorry Bazza.

What do you like best about Alfas?

Individuality.

Quite often it’s the only one in whichever car park I happen to abandon it.

The styling touches that don’t make sense to other people like large chrome front door handles with hidden rear door handles and the offset front number plate.

What do you like least about Alfas?

At the moment a rattling variator and an erratic idle speed.

The image of them being rust buckets that forever break down.

*I joined the RAC for the first time not long after purchasing my 156.

What would be your dream cars?

Oh I’d be quite easy to please.

I’d probably start with a black Autodelta tuned and modified 156 GTA and a yellow Alfa Spider V6 for Mrs R.

If money really were no object then my list would include a Ferrari 575M Maranello, a Ferrari F430, a Maserati 4200 Gran Sport, a Lamborghini Gallardo and an Aston Martin Vanquish.

My dream cars can change from day to day.

For you, what is the most popular thread on AO?

Any started by me.

What would be your ideal drive in an Alfa (destination, passenger, driving music, etc)?

From my house to the Alfa museum in Arese via as many fast straights and twisty, turny mountain roads as possible with someone who could stop me getting lost.

Listening to an Indie/Rock mega mix.

Any humorous Alfa or car-related stories you wish to share with us?

I while ago I got caught speeding by a newly sited camera on a local dual carriageway.

A week or so later I was driving right on the speed limit, on the same stretch of road when some bloke in a big repmobile roared up behind me flashing his lights for me to get out of his way. I put my foot down and he followed me right on my tail. Just before the camera I pulled into the left hand lane and jumped on the brakes. He promptly flew past me gesticulating wildly and got flashed by the camera.

Sucker!!

*I do not condone this kind of behaviour in any shape or form.

What interests do you have outside of Alfas?

Spending time with my daughter and girlfriend, attending football matches, listening to music, watching films, cooking, ‘socialising’ and generally being ‘out and about’.

Tell us something nobody knows about you. (e.g. special skill, ever been on TV, etc)

Girls want to be with me and guys want to be me.
What do you like most about the Alfaowner forum? Any favourite threads, episodes or posts you wish to share?

The amount of time and money I have saved thanks to good advice from its members.

Returning good advice to other members.

Positive responses to the pictures I post particularly in the AO Garage.

When did you crash land in Area51?

2001 just before dinnertime.

And when are your mates joining you on planet earth in order to gain world domination

They’re already here, in every country and town, casually blending in, going about their day-to-day business until the big one, ‘R Day!’

LOL, I actually gave a similar treatment to someone who acted the same way as you described. The only difference is that the speed trap I used for this event was a camera that hadn't been working for over a year but I noticed the evening before the speed trap was active again (not catching me btw) so i thought: let's give this driver a treat

Nice interview BTW
