New Irish 156 Sport owner
Been trawling through these forums for the past weeks scoping about, some fantastic detailed information on here I have to say. I was to and from looking for a new car for the past few weeks and looked at everything BMW 320 , Mercedes C200, C220D, Audi, Volkswagan and I never even thought about an Alfa until one popped up on a site and I had a browse, then I couldn't get it out of my head so I started looking into them and despite the 'Don't buy an Alfa!!' 'Are you nuts?' ' Perpare to get your hands dirty' taunts from friends I decided that I actually don't mind getting my hands dirty and went ahead and bought a 2 litre, Blue vela 156 Sportspack with cream leather. Didn't cost me very much and I got what I think was the best model seems to have all the extra's but she did come at a price as the previous owner really hadn't shown her any love...I guess it was one of those this car is to beautiful to die moment out of me, head said no chance, heart had me driving her home and planning repairs. Here's what I've done so far and what I have to do.
Relay for indicators replaced (They weren't working!)
New spark plugs
Repaired tears in intake pipe causing engine misfire
Replaced all bulbs in the car exterier
Cleaned throttle body and intake
Replaced tie rod ends inner and outter on both sides (They snapped 3 days in)
To do: (Oh boy)
Paint work needs attention lots of stone ships
New thermostat - stat is stuck open
Two new front tyres
Buy KKL cables for ECU
Fix airbag warning light
Replace air filter with Aspiro twin cone
New badges front and rear
On the good front and probably the only reason I did buy this one was the timing belt and water pump were just done a week beforehand. Anyway that's me, Despite the above I love this car I really don't think I'll be going back German after owning an Alfa it's the best car I've driven so far really puts a smile on my face....that engine note! , the handling , the leather , the dials!, the fact that I don't see them at every bloody traffic light.
I don't agree with ' Your mad to own an Alfa' I think it's more ' People who love cars and like working on their own will love Alfa's'
