Madness Anger

Hello peeps man i bought an alfa 147 selespeed 4 years ago and it has given me all the problems under the sun....these include engine conking out at present due to a timing belt problem, which was meant to be checked by the fabulously incompetant (so angry spelling is a problem!) alfa romeo dealers...I will put a reconditioned engine in my alfa and get shot of it as soon as possible...aaaaarrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Anger

Hi Jay-0, welcome.

Sorry to hear that your Alfa experience has not been any good.

Timing belt inspection (I'm guessing that's what your referring to) by your Alfa dealer is always going to be a bit of a problem. AFAIK nobody can predict how long a belt will last for....even if it looks in good condition. It could be a year or more ......or only a few weeks - you just can't tell. So Alfa's servicing requirement to inspect the timing belt at 36,000 miles will only indicate if it needs immediate replacement. It certainly won't show that it's good until 72,000 miles. If you read some of the other threads on AO about timing belt failures you will see a lot more - the only way to be sure is to replace it early. BTW it's not only Alfas that have timing belt problems.

Re: Anger

Sorry to hear about your woes Jay. Hope it gets sorted soon, and find a decent independant.
Welcome to AO btw, somewhat rare to hear about a selespeed that has problems other than gearbox related.
