I've always fancied owning an Alfa Romeo, but the stories about their reliability put me off. A couple of years ago though I found myself buying a 2001 156 2.0 Twinspark, really beautiful car in a pale green with leather interior, sat nav, reverse parking sensors etc etc. It only cost £700 so I thought I couldn't go far wrong with such beauty for so little money.
Turns out I was wrong and the engine had suffered from neglect.
So, 2 years later it still has most of the original tank of fuel, I won't go into details of what I've done with it over that time, but it has cost me plenty of £s and headaches.
So after that experience there is no way I'd buy another Alfa, is there?
Well, yes there is. I've bought a black 2005 Alfa Romeo 156 2.4 JTD (175bhp) a couple of weeks ago. The few miles I drove in the last one made me fall in love
. Hopefully this one will be more reliable.
So far I've only had to put on new tyres, paid for a full service, bought a new battery, and swapped the interior with my old Alfa (the new one had a swede beige interior I wasn't keen on). And it now has problems with a split turbo hose and the alternator stopped working when I fitted the new Battery, I hoped this would be a blown fuse, but it seems not.
Wish me luck, I'm really excited about the new car, and if I can get it working right it'll be worth every penny I'm spending.
