Congrats on your 166, fantastic car!
Here are a few things to look out for that i have experienced over the years of owning Alfas
1. the electrics are a lot better in the later models however the grounding strap to the donk can cause some gremlins in your guages on the dash.
2 The instruments in the earlier models can go a bit weird.
3. Make sure the ground point for the airbag is cleaned and tight. this cause the airbag light to come on. Common fault.
4.The heater core can suddenly leak so get your alfa man to cover the gearbox computer with a plastic bag, if you dont it will cost you a bucket load of cash to replace.
5. Most importantly change the water pump with a Steel impeller. As the nylon ones heat up and get old, chemical changes cause it to shrink tighter on the shaft and suddenly split. For obvious reasons it will start to behave weirdly with temp vs rmp.. Dont mess with this, just do it and save yourself the grief.
In truth that is generally the sum of the systemic probs with a 166, apart from that it will run like a swiss watch every day and generally be a good soldier.
Oh yeah, check the bolts on the I link are tight, it can cause a knock in the front end that will do your head in.. 5 minute fix
Best of luck with it and enjoy the simple pleasure of being in such a wonderful car
