Hi all, just a quick introduction!, Allan, I have owned a red 1996 GTV, FEZ 3659, for around 3 years now and on many occasions without the knowledge and advice available from this site I may well of thrown in the towel by now!!. I purchased the GTV on a whim after carrying out some work for a customer in Hartlepool north east england , it was in a sad state 2 flat tyres, covered in green moss, rusty discs and peeling lacquer roof! however I was in awe of its striking looks, anyway a price was agreed and I carted it off on a trailer with a long list of items the previous owner (not mechanically minded) had been told it required and an astronomical bill to carry out the work. It was at this point I began to familiarize myself with ALFA ownership WHAT HAD I DONE THE WIFE WILL KILL ME!.
I took an appraisal and still struck by its alluring looks, I made my list of jobs to be done, these included:-
1- TIMING BELT DONE WITH VARIATOR AT THE SAME TIME WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SOURCE GENUINE ALFA PARTS FROM EBAY AT A FRACTION OF COST, A LOCAL GARAGE CARRIED OUT THE CHANGE.(BRIANS GARAGE HARTLEPOOL) A SPECIAL TOOL IS REQUIRED
2-REPAINT ROOF LOCAL PAINT SHOP
3-FULL SERVICE CARRIED OUT BY MYSELF AND YES I DID GET A SHOCK AT COST OF PLUGS!
4-DISCS AND PADS FRONT AND BACK
5-DRIVERS LOWER ARM AND DROP LINK
6-PASSENGERS DROP LINK
7-FRONT AND REAR EXHAUST
8 NEW WIPERS
9-2 NEW TYRES
I'm sure there was more!
All invoices carefully hidden away from wife!!, oh and have just changed thermostat, again with the help of this forum.
FEZ3659 is a pleasure to drive I love it!, but like my old landrover 110 there always something new requiring my attention.
Hope I havnt bored you all , but thanks to all those that post threads on overcoming problems ! keep up the good work we do read them whilst scratching our heads under the bonnets of our ALFA'S .
Best regards Allan
