Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster here.
Been craving an Alfa for a long time and scoured these forums for ages, trying to get a handle on exactly which of the fabulous looking cars I want to make my entry into Alfa-ownership with.
And still no closer to a decision!
Help push me one way or another...
My driving situation:
My wife and I are both at college and are shortly moving house to be closer.
We'll be living 5.5 miles from college, so daily commute will be a round trip of 11 miles on country lanes, 4 days a week.
Aside from that, factor in 1mile trips to the gym and shops, as well as fortnightly visits to the in-laws for Sunday dinner (50 mile round trip from Melton Mowbray to Nottingham and back).
All-in, we're looking at maybe 5000/6000 miles per year, even including holidays, day trips and random journeys.
90% of the time it's just my wife and I in the car, although we do occassionally give friends and family lifts.
I'm currently driving a '98 306 diesel with 205,000 miles on the clock. It is noisy, unable to pull the skin off a rice pudding and averages 36mpg from a tank EVEN driven like a nun.
What am I looking for out of my Alfa?
- Needs to look good.
- Have some toys.
- Be comfortable and quiet for the fortnightly 50mile round trip to the in-laws, as well as the occassional 5 hour trip to Cornwall down the motorway.
- Be fun while pressing on.
- Room for shopping and perhaps the occassional 3rd/4th person.
So, what do you guys recommend?
I have a budget of £4-6k, though could possibly go a tad higher if the right car comes along.
I have always liked the look of the GT, especially the Q2 with the red stitching...
However, a few weeks back I did take a 159 2.4 for a test drive and, I have to say, I was very impressed with the solid feel and the refinement (though I'm given to understand that the diesels in the 159 would be awful for the majority of driving that I do...)
Thanks guys, looking forward to your input!
