New Alfa 156 owner

I'm a Vauxhall man at heart really, but when my last one died I went on E-bay to find a replacement quickly and found someone in my town selling an S-reg 156 for less than £500. After taking it on a test drive and finding that it was a great car to drive I bought it and for the last couple of weeks have been very happy.

A couple of niggles that I need to sort out are -

The remote key is broken (works to start the car but not to remotely unlock it) - Is there a way to get the key refurbished or replaces, I contacted Alfa who quoted me £300 for a new one!

Heating control is temperamental and the temperature gets stuck. I'm going to try resetting the system and performing an ECU reset, otherwise I guess I need to replace the solenoid behind the temperature controls...

While I have the battery disconnected to perform the ECU reset I want to replace the aftermarket stereo with a Sony one, does anyone know if I'll need an adapter ot make the wiring match, and where I can get one from?

Hi and welcome.
I have a 97 Spider TS, I can just take my standard key to any key cutters for a new copy.

The remote fob with mine I am not even sure if it is OEM. The alarm works but only flashes indicators. I think the sounder has either been turned off or disconnected. Probably been 'troublesome' in the past.

I am not up on the 156 but if all it does is operate the doors I would not bother myself.

hi, just got a 156 myself [1 month] fell in love with it too on test drive

i changed my stereo to a pioneer headunit and the Alfas audio connectors are the standard common type. my pioneer comes with its own harness that connects to these standard iso connectors,

the Alfa has these two standard iso plugs -

also, the wiring is tight, make sure you push all the cables down to below where the head unit will eventually be sitting or else it wont push in all the way - and mine was a pain in the a*** to get out again to re-adjust!
