Help new guy

hi everyone, i've joined this a bit early, not actually bought an alfa yet!! funds are now in place, although they're "budget" to say the least!! so i'm after a bit of advice. I've noticed that prices on GTV's have come right down,is this a good starting point?? obviously 156's are plentiful, which is better 1.8 or 2.0 and can i trust the selespeed not to empty my bank account! and of course does just had the cambelt done spell good or bad news! Not short of common sense so condition is obviously where you start, it's just getting a head start on alfa's little foibles that i'm after. many thanks Neil

Hi Neil,

I'm new to Alfa ownership myself actually (just over 6 months), and I'm afraid I can't offer you a great deal of technical advice on the gtv or 156, but I can say that there can't be many cars out there that make you feel the way an Alfa does.

And for what it's worth and I may be wrong (insert usual list of caveats and small print!), but I reckon the gtv's have got to be a future classic - that said the 156 is obviously more practicle so depends on A) what you need, and B) what you want.

Anyway welcome and good luck in your search/decision - also perhaps post in one of the gtv/156 sub-forums and you may get more useful perspectives than mine !!!
