Vibration wheels and steering

Hi, can anyone help, I recently had upper wishbones done on my gt, there had been a lot of rattling but also really scary vibration when I touched the breaks over 30 mph. I have been driving it like this for to long and after the wishbones where fitted and the vibration didn't go away my mechanic told me the front wheels where badly damaged and need replacing.
Could driving it for so long like this have had such an effect on the wheels.
Has any one else had any similar problems, Thanks.
