2001 156 TS 2.0

New Battery is flat

I have an Alfa 156 2.0 TS 2001 model. It has 72K on the clock. I bought it last October 2011.

Had battery problems when I bought it. It would go flat if I don't use it for 4-5 days. I went to Halfords to check the battery and alternator. the result was that the battery needed replacement and the alternator was good. Afterwards the car was running well. Then I had to park the car for the last 10 days due to business travel. When I tried starting it this morning, the battery was dead flat. I tried jump starting it but the jump leads over heated and got burnt.

Did anyone have a similar experience?
