Re: Hi I am Paul from Kent
Welcome to AO, have fun !
On the service point that's not a bad price for a 48K if I remember rightly however what I will mention that if the car didn't get the belt/tensioners replaced (not just inspected) at 36K I'd suggest biting the bullet and gettign them done now. This will increase the service cost by a good few hundred pounds - although there may be a specialist in your area that will do it cheaper.
I'd use either alfa specialist or AR dealer rather than a general garage especially with the selespeed as they have the experience with the cars foibles!
As you might read AR UK have put a belt inspection into the 36K service, but the only way to do this properly is to take it off at which point you might as well replace the belt!
Alfa UK have recently stopped compensating people as a matter of course for timing belt fails on 156's and there are many stories of them going before the 72K service. Whilst this position as far as trading standards go is not totally clear i.e. it's not been tested as far as I'm aware. It's probably cheaper to bite the bullet and get it done before you have problems.
This is not a unique problem to alfa ts engines, for example vauxhall have recently cut the belt change interval to 40K on a range of other engines.
Enjoy your car and enjoy AO....
Oh of course dont forget to post some pics!
