156 Selespeed

Wave Hello

Hi all,

Just thought I'd write and say hello!

I have a 156 Selespeed that I have lived in since July (well a few 500 mile + round trips anyway!) and I can honestly say that it is an incredibly fun car to drive (but you all knew that anyway).

The only complaint I do have though is with the dealer network, are there any owners around this area (I live in Salisvury) that can recommend a good dealer for servicing and repair work?

Also although as I said it is already awesome can anyone recommend any mods for the selespeed version of the car, I can only seem to find ones for other models. It's just out of curiosity at the moment, and I have already put an Alpine SatNav unit in so ICE is not on my priorities.

Hello again to you all, and oh yeah! Happy new year!

Re: Hello

Hi James,

A luverly car, innit?

Lowering with quality springs or a complete suspension setup wil absolutely widen your day to day driving grin I dont believe much in remaps or induction kits, but doing the V6 intake modification is really popular. Use the "Search" tab, It does sound better afterwards though

Enjoy your stay, and ask away, we're here to help.

Re: Hello

Easy reletively cheap but effective modification....Front Strut Brace, £100.00 for the Momo one, stiffens the Car up remarkably, which helps turn in and also, suprisingly, ride quality.
BTW Welcome to AO..

Re: Hello

Thanks everyone, so the strut brace seems to be the best mod, thanks IanM.

I don't know how the V6 tuning would help Hoygaard as the Selespeed is the 2 litre engine but thanks anyway!

I'm glad no-one started suggesting body kits or after market wings, I have been having an on running battle with my Max Power subscriber mates who just keep suggesting biog wings and neons....

Thanks again

James

Re: Hello

There isn't many members who like "special" body kits or wings etc... I can remeber a girl who posted pics of his body kitted 156... the comments of other members were anything but accepting...

It just happens to be that any exterior mod only seems to make Alfas look bad

Hi James, welcome to AO,

The V6 air intake fitted to a 2.0 is a popular mod, gives a bit more torque lower down in the revs i think, my Dads about to do this to our 2.0 156.

Glad you dont want to max power it, alfas dont look good like that

Happy new year and welcome to AO.
Hope your car will be nicely modded and pics posted soon!
I'd stick to Alfa sites when lookin for mods rather than MP.

Re: Hello

Hi James, welcome to AO

Not sure how old your car is, but if it is out of warranty, and you want the name of an independant specialist, a couple of the guys here have used S&H Motors in Poole (which is not a million miles from you). I have used them for a cambelt change, and they seem to know what they are doing (and are reasonably priced).

Also, my car was originally purchased (by the previous owner) from Melbury Motor Company in Shaftsbury, and had it first three services done there. However, I have not used them myself, so I cannot comment on their service.

btw, some pics of your car would be nice......

Re: Hello

The V6 intake Mod is totally worth the money,

The side indicators too - depending on your car colour go smoked or clear - buy this from the alfaowner shop ;-).

For more extreme tweakery a little trip up to london to visit autodelta for a remap may be in order as they do lots of nice things to both the engine and the selespeed....

As for dealers you do tend to have to travel to find a good/not bad one it's 100mile round trip to mine from home....

Simon.

Re: Hello

I finally got my car back!! I saw it this weekend for the first time this year. I remembered how much fun it was to drive until after about 4 miles the coolant hose that they had not attached properly decided to unattach itself, the temperature guage was only stopped by the side of the plastic casing.

So thanks for some of your recommendations, I will be using a different garage in future and would strongly recommend that anyone else in the same area do the same, the garage I bought the car from now have lots of bills for the work done and the Alfa dealer seems unable to fix a heater, I don't even want to think about them trying to solve a serious problem!!
