Have I made a huge mistake??

All my life I've been surrounded by Alfa's. My dad had 2, my uncle owned a garage that specialized in maintenance/repairs of Alfa's so I suppose it was only natural that I'd own one. Well I finally did it, via a few BL cars, a handful of Fords, 2 Renaults (yes, I went back a second time) and other odds and sods that were neither fun nor inspiring.

Last week I started looking for a 156. I bid on one on ebay and then I saw it... A 'Buy It Now' for 600, it was too good to refuse. So I bought it and hated it from minute one. Not, I hasten to add, an Alfa 156 but a Lexus LS400. I don't know why I did it but fortunately I managed to swap it for a 156 2.5 V6, which makes me grin everytime I look at it.

I picked it up last night and drove back from Northampton to London more contented (as a driver!) than I have been since I owned a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. The M1 and M25 were a pleasure, something I never thought I'd say, and I just want to drive it at any opportunity now.

One drawback, I know the reputation Alfa's have and I'm worried I've just set myself up for a huge fall. But then I suppose that's one of the 'joys' of being an Alfa owner!

No you haven't made a mistake. The 156 2.5 V6 is a truly fabulous car - I drove one myself for 10 years and loved every minute of it. Just make sure the cambelt is changed regularly. Welcome to the forum

Thanks, Phil. The cambelt was changed recently and it has 12 months MOT (I know that means very little) so I feel pretty good about it.

Bargain! Welcome to AO.

Always worth checking who did the belt though and whether they did it properly.
